Let's Talk Handbags

Handbags  are one of those accessories that you just can't live without. They can make your outfit, add a little something extra, and bonus allow you to carry everything you need for the day or night. When shopping handbags are always the one thing you can count on, they won't be too tight or too long or need a zipper adjustment. They are perfect just the way they are, waiting for you to pick them out and style them accordingly.

When it comes to myself and handbags, I am definitely a tote girl and tend to keep way too much in my everyday bag. People at work joke that it resembles Mary Poppin's bag in the sense that if you need something, I generally will have it. When it comes to going out at night however, I am just the opposite and prefer just to carry a clutch with the basics.

Let's Talk Handbags

Ever since I saw a Goyard bag on Pinterest a few years ago I have been completely smitten. I love the material they are made out of and their chic pattern. While I don't currently own one, I thought it would be fun to pretend I did and fill it with what I do own in my real bag. One of my favorite accessories is my Hobo wallet, a gift from my best friend a years ago for my birthday. I absolutely love it and sometimes will just go out with that and nothing else due to the fact that its large enough to fit my phone and keys in the side pockets. I'm also someone that has to have their planners on them all times. It's filled with important dates, reminders, addresses, to do lists, and I'm pretty sure I would feel lost without it. Other basics include my phone (iphone 5c), charger, Kind bar (or almonds), sunnies, and Burts Bees (my favorite chapstick.) On any given day you could also find a number of things include Advil, water bottle, tide pen, or random receipts.

Nights out are much simpler and call for a clutch, card/money holder, lipstick, and external phone charger. When I'm out with friends the last thing I want to do is carry around a big purse or worry about my phone dying. The GiGi Uber clutch is perfect in that its small enough to fit under your arm but large enough to fit what you need for the night. Bonus that they have sales all the time and you can include your monogram.

Ruelala currently has a great handbag guide that you can check out here. This would be great to check out before you head out on your next shopping trip to see exactly what kind of handbag you are looking for for various occasions. I definitely tend to be a "tote" kind of girl but loved all the different looks featured on the guide.

Of course I couldn't be on Ruelala without checkout out the current deals and to my luck found a few great Kate Spade and Coach bags ! Head on over to Ruelala to check out the currently deals and steals!

What type of handbag do you prefer?

Yours truly,
Emily Ann

If someone handed me $100...

$100 can go pretty fast these days. It could be a nice night out on the town with friends, a few new pairs of shoes, or a couple weeks of grocery money. The point being... wouldn't it be nice if you happened to have an extra $100 to do with what you wanted? Recently The Dollar Shave Company popped up on my newsfeed and I decided to check it out. Not knowing what it was previously, I was blown away by their selection of razors for such an affordable price, delivered to you no less! When I started to think of the things I could do and buy I thought of a few of these...

- a day spent by myself treating myself to a mani/pedi, lunch, movie, and fun new lipstick

- taking my sweet mom and grandmother out to lunch

- getting a few weeks worth of blow outs

- buying luxurious soft sheets, sorry Target yours are great too

- hosting a fun wine and cheese night with friends, goodie bags included

The possibilities are endless and the best part is Dollar Shave Club can save you $100 when you join their monthly razor club. I highly suggest you check out their website to learn more about the opportunity! The best part is they are delivered straight to your house, saving you one more expense on your next Target trip.

What would you do with your $100?

Weekend

Ever have one of those weeks where you get to Friday and can't believe how fast it got here and wonder where the week went... I sure am today! I think I've finally gotten into the swing of things at my new job and boy does it keep my busy. I also had something going on almost everyday after work this week, not usually my style.  I apologize for lack of posting this week but already have most of next weeks posts in the works.

On tap for this weekend is a little shopping, oyster roast with friends, and relaxing. It should be a great weekend and bonus we're expected to have beautiful weather!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Emily Ann

This and that

can't believe it's already Thursday and I haven't posted once! I am still adjusting to the new job and this just in- I may be getting a second one! Life seems to be a whirl wind these past few weeks but I will try to give y'all a bit of an update!

Last week I made a batch of yummy brown rice Greek salad to have for lunches. Iv made this before but love all the different flavors and how colorful it is! I will post the recipe next week!

Last week we had lots of rain and while normally people arnt fans of rain, happen to love it! For some reason I find rainy day s to be very calming and peaceful, also any excuse to break out the hunter boots!

I was off work last Friday and decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and enjoyed spin class outside. It was a perfect way to start the weekend.

My friend Kaitlin and I also had quite the girls night and whipped up these spicy blackberry margaritas. They were so so yummy and I am definitely going to be making them again. We also made amazing grilled shrimp nachos- recipe to come!

Last but not least and most exciting- I was asked to be a bridesmaid in my cousin, Jackie's wedding! I am so honored and excited to be able to share her special day with her and can't wait for more of the planning.

This week I am getting back on my feet after and awful cold last week and work has been insane! This weekend I am definitely looking forward to some down time and enjoying the gorgeous fall weather we are supposed to have.

Also- Loft is currently offering 50% off everything in stores and online. I absolutely love their line Lou & Grey. Here's a few things I might check out this weekend:

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Emily Ann

Weekend

I'm currently writing today's post at 10am on Friday after sleeping a total of 11 hours, yes that happened. Thank goodness I have today off, due to working tomorrow, but this cold has seriously got me behind the ball. This morning was the first time all week I actually felt somewhat functional when I woke up, still hacking and sniffling of course. I am totally looking forward to a day of just relaxing and being indulgent. This weekend the only thing on my to do list is a quick 9-5 shift tomorrow and then no plans. I absolutely love weekends with no plans, and can't wait to spend mine just relaxing. After being busy and on the go the past month and now having this horrible cold, I think my body is begging for some down time. Here's a few finds and things on my mind from this week...

- After my 22 mile hike in one day I somewhat swore off hiking for a bit but actually found myself missing it and wanting to get back on the trails. I stumbled upon this list that I am excited to check out of trials near Asheville, a place I have been wanting to check out for forever!

- Two of my favorite things, copper detailing and candles

- Thinking a little pumpkin baking is in order this weekend

- These are perfection

- Amen

Shopbop Picks

Shopbop Picks

It's no secret that Shopbop is currently having one of their biggest sales and offering 25% off. This is a great time to invest in great pieces but for a less expensive price then normal. I noticed when I was perusing the site I was drawn to neutral and fall colors, especially this cozy sweater from Splendid. I'm also not normally one to rush through Holidays but with Christmas approaching, it's a great time to get gifts for friends and family!
Happy Shopping!

Emily Ann

Mid Week Randoms + My Chili Recipe

Sorry for the lack of posts this week, I am a bit behind and needing a catch up post. This past weekend was a busy one filled with lots of get togethers with friends! Friday night I had dinner with a friend from work at Trophy Brewing Company in Raleigh, I had heard great things and couldn't wait to try it out! They are known for their homemade beer selections along with their daily speciality pizzas. Pizza and beer, what more could a girl as for on Friday night! I chose their Big Boss Harvest Time beer and Grilled Cheese pizza and was so happy with both. If you are in the area or visiting, I highly suggest you check it out!

After a yummy dinner I headed out in downtown Raleigh and after a bar stops, ended up at Raleigh Times. I've been here several times but always happy with the atmosphere and beer selection.

Saturday we were up and off to one of the best brunches I've ever had at Nofo.

My friend Ellen and I ended up sharing 2 dishes- the Vegetable Risotto topped with a fried egg and hollandaise and the Spinach Burger with sweet potato fries. Both were so so good and I am already looking forward to going back soon. Nofo also has a cute store attached with fun candles, jewelry, and home items, definitely a spot to remember.

After brunch we headed out to Cameron Village for a little girls shopping day. Cameron Village has a great selection of small boutiques including Madison, Bevello, and Fedora. I walked away with a burgundy blouse that I wore later that evening for our friends newlywed party.

I apologize for the quality!

Saturday night was spent celebrating Abby and Stephen as newlyweds. The party was thrown by 15 of the couples parents friends and could not have been nicer. Everything from the lights around the tents to the fun newlywed game was perfect and overall such a fun night.

Sunday I ended up feeling under the weather and spent most of the day on the couch which has now lead to a nasty cold. We're talking stuffy nose, sore throat, and popping ears... not fun. This week I am hoping to take it easy and get lots of rest in.

I also wanted to share a yummy recipe I posted about last week that has become a new favorite-
Sweet Potato Chili!

Ingredients:
2 can of kidney beans
2 cans of diced tomato with green chilies
1 can of seasoned black beans
1 packet of chili seasoning
1 cubed sweet potato ( the smaller the pieces the better)
1/2 can of water
Chili powder

Throw all of the above ingredients into your crock pot and allow 4-5 hours on high. I chose to top mine with just a bit of cheese but feel free to get creative! It is so simple but so tasty and full of flavor!

Looking at this weeks meals, so far I have planned:
- Black bean soup ( can't wait to share this recipe)
- Greek brown rice salad
- Baked Tofu with sweet potato and white beans
- Veggie burgers and roasted garlic brussels sprouts

Hope everyone is having a great week so far!

Yours truly,
Emily Ann

TGIF

Y'all... I have not looked forward to a weekend this long since I can't remember when. With the first week of my new job under my belt, I am feeling so so excited for my new adventure but utterly exhausted. I wish I plans to relax and take it easy over the weekend but I am looking at a jam packed weekend of running errands, having friends in town, and attending a newlywed party for one of my best friends. With all that being said, I am looking forward to some down time Sunday afternoon before heading back to another exciting and busy week at work. Here's a few finds from the week...

- Roasted chickpeas are one of my favorite snacks to make, especially on top of a salad. This recipe is new to me but I can't wait to try it out.

- Loving this simple bathroom organization

- A great splurge vs. save beauty guide

- Wishing I was picking up these beauties this weekend, perfect with so many things

- I aspire...

Cheers to Friday friends!

Yours truly,
Emily Ann

Thoughts For Thursday: See Ya Later Paycheck

See Ya Later Paycheck

This Friday is payday and never have I been so exited. No one really tells you how much if costs to move and let me tell you- it's expensive. From the uhaul to renting a storage unit and putting down security deposits... wow. I have a huge list of things to do and buy this weekend, including the things listed above. Let's run through them...

I am hoping to finally get a new pair of boots and these Sam Edelman boots are currently on sale at Nordstroms. I am also am in need of a good pair of neutral flats for work and plan to check Target and Nordstroms Rack, nothing fancy just something easy and comfy for work. Now that I am working in a job that I can't wear scrubs occasionally, I have discovered my work pant selection is seriously low. I am looking for a good basic pair of black skinnies and thinking I will try Gap, Loft, and also the Lilly Pultizer Travel Pant. A few weeks ago I made the mistake of dropping my phone without a case and I now have quite the cracked screen. I would be lying if I said that pieces of glass weren't falling out on the daily. As I mentioned yesterday, I am on the hunt for a new face mask and have heard rave reviews about this one from Glam Glow. It's a bit on the pricier side but I am hoping to possibly get a sample for making the big decision. While Im perusing around Sephora I also intend to pick up the Tarte foundation. My summer foundation is a bit too dark and being that I love Tarte products, figured this was a good one to try!

Let's not forget the things not listed like getting my oil changed and eye brows done. It's going to a be pricey weekend and I'm already having a bit of anxiety but I think come Sunday I will feel much better!

Cheers to almost Friday!

Yours truly,
Emily Ann

Happening Now

Let's talk about how it's only Wednesday... gross. This is my first official week at the new job and while I am absolutely loving it and so excited to be a part of a new team, this girl is exhausted! Every day is filled with learning new information and I am finding myself a bit overwhelmed and ready for down time over the weekend! Here's a bit of what's currently going on...

Smelling: Autumn Harvest candle from Target

Making: Lists of things to do this weekend- eye brown, oil change, new work shoes, etc.

Wearing: My new work ID badge, thankfully an acceptable picture

Baking: Spinach/Feta eggs cups

Listening: Hozier, absolutely love them

Wanting: A new face mask, maybe its exhaustion but my skin is just looking dull these days (recs?)

Drinking: Red blends, a change from my normal oaky buttery Chardonnay favorites

Loving: Living back in NC and being closer to friends

Eating:  Quinoa veggie salad + sweet potato chili (recipe to come)

Wishing: For beautiful fall weather this weekend to enjoy with friends

Reading: Struggling to finish The Goldfinch

Needing: A new pair of neutral flats for work

Noticing: I am way too attached to my phone

What are some of you currently up to?

Yours truly,
Emily Ann

Veggie Quinoa Salad

Today I am sharing a quick easy salad that can be thrown together in the beginning of the week and makes a great lunch throughout the week. I used this recipe as inspiration but as always, decided to make it my own.

Ingredients:
1 cup of quinoa
1 cup of corn
3 roma tomatoes chopped
1 cup of chick peas
3-4 small yellow and orange peppers chopped
Olive oil
Lemon juice
Salt and pepper

Cook quinoa according to the package instructions. While quinoa is cooking, chop tomatoes and peppers. Once quinoa is finished cooking, allow it to cool at room temperature before adding in veggies. To make dressing mix 4 tablespoons of olive oil and 3 table spoons of lemon juice. Top with a dash of salt and pepper and enjoy!

Yours truly,
Emily

Scenes From A Perfect Weekend

This weekend was in one word: perfect. I was spoiled with a few days off between jobs and absolutely took every opportunity to soak up relaxing and spending time with friends. Wednesday I had my last day at previous job and blown away with sweet goodbyes and a huge breakfast to send me off. We're talking pancakes, eggs, donuts, bagels, yogurt, fruit... the whole bit. I was so sad to say bye to my work family but also so excited to start my new adventure.

Thursday I headed to my new place and spent most of the day unpacking and getting settled. Thursday night I headed to meet one of my best friends that lives in Raleigh for dinner and drinks. I am so happy to be closer to her and so many of my other friends, we had so much fun catching up and making future plans. Friday I was up early to finish the last bit of unpacking before I headed out in search of some coffee and breakfast. After getting lost in the city and making numerous circles, I finally caved and texted my roommate for a recommendation. Boy did she make a great one, I had the best Almond Milk latte from Cocoa Cinnamon. Their menu was a bit overwhelming but I can't wait to go back and try some of their other options aka the Dr. Durham.
'

The rest of Friday was spent checking out the YMCA downtown for a spin class and running a few errands to pick up some odds and ends for my room. Luckily my roommates have the room furnished so most of my stuff will stay in storage until the move to Raleigh in a few months. Friday night I headed out in downtown Raleigh with some friends.

Saturday I will admit I was feeling a bit under the weather but after a staple visit to Bojangles, I was ready to tackle the day. The weather was so nice I decided there was no better way to spend the day then at the Wide Open Bluegrass Festival. It was so much fun and we were able to see so many amazing bands. My favorites included Yonder Mountain String Band, Kentucky Thunder with Bruce Hornsby, and Billy Strings with Don Julin. I also couldn't believe how cold it got Saturday night! I would be lying if I said I have been wishing for fall weather but sure enough was freezing that night and drinking hot chocolate.

After the concert we headed for some good 'ol comfort food at Mecca in Raleigh and opted for classic grilled cheese and fries.

Sunday morning was spent relaxing and with tastes of fall aka pumpkin spice oatmeal and coffee... yum

I also whipped up some yummy meals for the week including this veggie quinoa salad, recipe to come!

Sunday ended with sweet potato chili in the crock pot, some reading outside and a trip to the movies to see Gone Girl. I read the book so long ago I had forgotten the ending and was absolutely blown away.  Overall it was such a great weekend and I am looking forward to more just like it in my new home! Today is officially my first day for my new job, here's to a new start and new adventure!

How did you spend your weekend?

Yours truly,
Emily
