Scenes From The Weekend

Monday Monday...we meet again. However unlike the past few Mondays where I've felt exhausted from working the weekend and not quite prepared to face another week... this Monday I am feeling much better. This weekend I had the pleasure of being off and while I was not feeling my best on Friday, a little R&R is all the doctor ordered and I am feeling not 100% but overall much better.

On Friday I laid around all day, and lucky for me is was rainy gross day and made for a perfect lounging day.
View from my couch all snuggled watching the rain. On Friday I made a decision that I'm still not quite sure how I feel about... I started watching Downtown Abbey. I have heard rave reviews and wanted to see what all the fuss was about and let me just say... I have a new obsession. I had plans to lay low and finish up season one when I got suckered into meeting up with some friends for the night.

We met up a local brewery for a couple beers and live music.

Obviously a few beers turned into too many and before I knew it we were headed downtown to continue to the fun.

Saturday morning I woke up feeling less then stellar but was quickly picked up by a fabulous breakfast at the one and only... Cracker Barrel.  I stayed pretty healthy and chose the Egg and Cheese sliders on a thin whole wheat toast and fresh fruit. After breakfast I managed to pull myself to the gym and completed a good hour cardio session. The rest of Saturday afternoon and night were spent finished season 1 and 2 of Downtown Abbey... pathetic or an accomplishment, I'll let you decide.

Sunday I was up early and headed to church... yes you read that right... I went to church. Although I went to private school all the way until college, I have never found myself to be as religious as I could. Sunday morning I awoke with no plans and thought there is no better time then today to work on my relationship with  God. Luckily for me, there is a catholic church just a block away from me. It was a beautiful service and I left afterwards feeling refreshed and happy to start my day on such a peaceful yet humbling mood.

My lovely Sunday didn't stop there, I was able to squeeze in a quick Barre class and although I normally advocate for Sundays being strictly rest days, I felt even more energized and ready for the day following class. After Barre I headed to my obligatory Sunday spot...
Barnes to catch up on some mags and enjoy an iced coffee. It's such a small treat but one that I look forward to every Sunday. I look at it as my "me" time.

The rest of Sunday included lots of laundry, more Downtown Abbey and a quick sprint run...
It was way too nice of a day not to head out a little run and while I had no intention of turning it into a sprint, I would say averaging a 5.30 mile is pretty good. So much for Sundays being for rest.

How did you spend your weekend?

Em

High Five For Friday + A Little More

Happy Friday Y'all! Unfortunately I am writing this post home while sick at home feeling miserable but hey its still Friday! Maybe it was the almost 60 hour work week last week, or the traveling earlier in the week but I have been plagued with stuffy nose, achy, and sore throat. Today will be spent with EmergenC and catching up on my DVR. Pretty sure I haven't watched the past 2 weeks of Bach so I have lots of catching up to do!

This week I decided to participate in High Five For Friday so here's a few things that made the week go by just a bit quicker.

A pumpkin pie inspired smoothie! Spinach, almond milk, ice, pumpkin, pumpkin pie spice, and a bit of almond butter. I know its not fall anymore but I'm still a sucker for anything pumpkin and it was delicious!

An easy Tuesday girls nights out. It had been too long since the group of girls I hang out with got together and we finally set a date for this past Tuesday. We went to one of our favorite spots, sipped wine, shared some apps and had a great time!

I was all about the smoothies this week! I got this recipe from Ashley over at Turquoise & Teale. It was a PB&J inspired smoothie and it did not disappoint.

Earlier in the week I mentioned being back in North Carolina for a day and while I was there, got to stay with one of my best friends from college. She and her boyfriend were such wonderful hosts and made a delicious Sunday supper of homemade gumbo! It had shrimp, tilapia, mahi mahi, and lots of veggies.

Saturday night I have plans to meet up with a few friends at Casa Del Barco for a few drinks and maybe head out for a little bit. Hopefully I will be feeling better by then and can venture out for a little bit. A few weeks ago I was able to visit this little gem and ended up loving it. It has a great atmosphere and the great drinks didn't hurt either.

It's situated right along the river and although it looks like run down building, the inside is fabulous! I'll try to remember to take some pictures on Saturday if I make it but if you are near the Richmond area definitely check it out!

The Pixie Pant

One of my favorite trends right now is the pixie pant. They are so comfy, easy to dress down and up, and are flattering on most everyone! I recently bought this pair of of pixie pants on sale from Anthropolgie and am absolutely in love with them.

They are navy blue and have a slight gold shimmer to them. Excuse the messy room background but today I paired them a tan crew neck, nude flats, and a chunky gold necklace.

Here's a few other pixie pant looks that I love

What's your favorite way to style your pixie pants?

Em

Another week...

Hey Y'all sorry about my lack of posting last week! My week included a 6 day work week of Monday through Sunday and averaged working about 10 hours a day. I finally have a day off today and rather then spending it not getting out of bed like I wish I could... I am busy doing other things. I am not going to share what I'm doing today other then  its exciting and I am back in North Carolina for the day! I don't have time for much of a post today but will try and be better this week!

Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend and has a great start to the week! As for me.. today will consist of lots and lots of coffee!

Em

Let's Get Real

Alright y'all, I don't get deep on the blog a lot but I am feeling the need to have a little vent session. I saw this video the other day and although its meant to be taken as a joke, I couldn't have found it more applicable to  my life right now.

http://www.buzzfeed.com/przshly07/what-its-like-to-be-a-20something-as-told-by-mean-8ttl

I am in younger part of my mid 20s.

 Single.

In a new city where its still a struggle to meet new people.

I work all the time and don't get me wrong, I love my job but I work well over 40 hours because I feel like this is the time in my life that I can. I'm not married or have kids and at the end of the day I love leaving work feeling like I have done everything I needed that day and more.

There are nights when I would much rather have my face washed, teeth brushed, and be in bed by 10.

Broke would not even begin to describe my finances. No one else has a savings account right? And before you wonder, well if your working a lot shouldn't you be making a lot?... this girl is salary but believe me if I was hourly... I would be rich.

So aren't things supposed to be a bit different at this point in my life? Shouldn't I be living it up, going out, making friends, going on dates, hopping around to happy hours, spending my weekends shopping or traveling to see friends? I mean don't get my wrong- I have made some wonderful friends here in Richmond and I do go to happy hours and frequent Short Pump a bit too much which probably leads to me being broke. However I do feel like I am missing out on things and that I should be experiencing and doing more. Does anyone else feel this way or am I just a weirdo?

How do you feel about your 20s?

Yours truly,

Em

Quite The Update

Y'all I have officially fallen off the blogging wagon and I need to get back on. I have missed blogging so much the past few weeks and am ready to make a promise to try and keep it up! Because its been SO long since my last post I have a lot to catch up on. So what's the best way to catch up... lots of pictures!

Last weekend started off with one of my best friends coming in to town for the night. We headed to one of my favorite restaurants in Richmond- Cafe Cattura for some apps and wine. It was great to catch up and have a good 'ol girls night. We called it an early night so we could get on the road early Saturday to head to Greenville for a engagement party!

Before hitting the road we stopped at Ellwood Thompson for some smoothies and scones! If you are familiar with Richmond I'm sure you've heard of Ellwood Thompsons- it has quickly become an obsession of mine. I would say its like a smaller more local Whole Foods. They have great all natural organic products, not to mention an amazing juice/smoothie bar!

Once we got into Greenville we headed to the one and only Sup Dogs to grab a drink and catch up with some of the younger girls in our sorority. It felt great being back in Greenville and hearing all about the sorority and the amazing things they are doing. I will say I did feel old seeing all the college kids day drinking on the porch... oh the days.

Selfies with my bestie before heading out!

The only picture we managed to take while out! I snagged a great dress from Nordstroms a few weeks ago and got so many compliments that I can't believe we didn't take a full length!

Below are a few things to catch up on:
A new purple and gold crotchet coozie my aunt made me! I absolutely love that I can use it now with my coffees!

New purchases from Marshalls! With the  new color scheme of my bedroom being grey, navy, and white, these look perfect on my dresser.

As for this weekend, I am off today and will be spending the day being absolutely lazy and having some quality time with my DVR. Later I am heading to happy hour with some of the girls I work with and think a glass of wine is definitely needed after this week.

Saturday I am heading to an engagement party of my good friend Lauren and her fiance, Scott. They are such a fun great couple, I can't wait to be apart of their celebration! As for Sunday, my grandma is heading to Richmond for the day and I can't wait to spend some quality time with her. I am thinking lunch, movies, and maybe a little shopping is necessary.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Yours truly,
Em
