Weekend

Thank the lawd Friday is finally here. I can't wait to sleep in, catch up on shows, actually make it to the gym, and relax. This week was long and I am so glad the snow and icy is finally melting and we have had some warmer temps around here! Another plan for this weekend- write and schedule posts for next week... amen. Here's this weeks finds...

// I have been spending the past few days looking for a new weekender bag and I think I have finally found the perfect one

// Anyone else challenged when it comes to a curling iron? I know wands are the new thing but with my long thick hair a curling iron really works best. This article did a great job of working through the process and what products to use for all different hair types.

// I just discovered this jewelry line this week and want one of everything.

// These are on next week's menu and I can't wait to try them.

// And because sometimes you just need a reminder...

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Emily Ann

Valentines Gift Guide: For Her

Valentines Gift Guide: For Her

Valentine's Day is still 2 weeks away but it never hurt to plan ahead, especially when it comes to gift giving. Here's a list of a few things I wouldn't mind receiving this year...

// I am pretty much a sucker for any Voluspa candle and not only did I like scent of this one but also the pretty pink color.

// I have yet to jump on the S'well bandwagon but thinking I may have to give in. I love this simple gold version.

// Starbucks giftcard... no explanation necessary.

// This is the ultimate comfy bra and panty. If you have yet to try this brand, do so, you will not regret it!

// I love the delicate look of these pearl earings, perfect to dress up an outfit or to wear for night out.

// One can never have too many sleep shorts

// These Karen Walker sunnies have been floating around the blog world for quiet some time. While they are pretty expensive, I have heard rave reviews and think they are stunning.

// One of my all time favorite scents and a good go to for any occasion.

Whats on your Valentines wish list?

Emily Ann

On My {Recipe} Radar

Meals lately have been pretty basic and not exciting. Turkey burgers, spaghetti squash, or sauteed veggies and group turkey have been on heavy repeat and I am over it. Last night I spent some time scouring pinterest for some fun new recipes to break my cooking slump. Now that I am slowly starting to eat meat again I should find it easier to find meals to cook but for some reason that is not the case. Since I have started eating meat I have noticed my taste preference has become slightly more selective which makes cooking and looking for recipes a bit of a hassle. Below are some ones that I am going be trying over the next few weeks...

This seems like a great one that could be eaten all week as leftovers or even throw into a tortilla or lettuce wrap to change it up to change it up if needed.

Chicken Sausage and Peppers Macaroni Casserole
( I am going to try this using turkey sausage since I haven't quiet stared eating chicken yet)

This one has been floating around the internet and I can't wait to give it a try and if it all crumbles, it will make a yummy sushi bowl.

Salmon is one of my all time favorite things to cook and this version look so easy and simple.

What new recipes have you tried lately?

Emily Ann

Catching up + Lately {In Photos}

Being that I took a whole month away from the blog world, I thought it would be fun to a bit of a catch up via pictures. Most pictures are while I was home throughout the holidays and some are just randoms as of lately...

Of course I got in a lot of time with my favorite furry friend over the Holidays. He was very excited about his new Christmas toy.

New Year's eve was kept low key this year and included dinner with my parents, another couple, myself and Tyler. We went had late reservations at Level, a small plates restaurant in downtown that we had heard great reviews over. Everything from our drinks to our dessert so was so good and I will definitely be going back next time I am home.

I also bought this fun mask kit while at Sephora a few weeks ago. I swear I am sucker for the travel sized items at the checkout line, gets me every time. So far I have tried the mud mask and cucumber and loved both.

This outfit and especially plaid shirt as been on repeat. It was a target score and I have been loving it layered underneath sweaters or vests.

Thank you to everyone for the Asheville recommendations! We are so excited and decided to extend our trip the whole weekend as opposed to our original plan of just Friday night. Hope everyone has a great start to the week!

Yours truly,
Emily Ann

Saturday Things

So really this post was intended for Friday but that didn't happen so here it is on Saturday. Three posts in 1 week is better then none so I would say we are on the upswing. This week was long long long and I felt like it was never going to end. Luckily, I was able to end my week last night my favorite way- frozen pizza, a bottle of red, a face mask, and in bed by 10. I kid you not when I say I wish every Friday night looked like that. I may still be in my 20's but gone are the nights where I long to come home form work, reshower, get ready and head out for a night on town just to wake up and feel less then alive the next morning. Lately and one of my goals for this year to to relax when I have the time. During the week I am on the go 24/7 and normally my weekends are also jam packed with plans or traveling which is great sometimes, but not all the time. In 2016 I vow to rest and recover when I need it and not feel the need to be on the go and doing all the time. But let's get to the real point of this post... my favorite finds as of lately...

// While most of my makeup and skincare comes from Sephora or a department store, I also rely on a few drugstore favorites that I've been using for years. Check out this list of some good drug store finds.

// I am swooning over these 2 pieces and lucky for me both are in my budget. I am loving this to dress up any outfit and love the kick of color. This makes the perfect accessory and is perfect for everyday.

// White space, open light, gold light fixtures ... my ideal kitchen.

// The best Airbnb picks from around the world. If this doesn't give you a travel bug I don't know what will!

// All too often I find I should ask myself these 3 things before I open my mouth.... anyone else?

On tap for this weekend includes the gym, errands, and more relaxing. Cheer's a low key weekend!

Travel Recommendations Needed- Asheville!

Happy Tuesday friends! Today's post I am asking for some help in planning a upcoming trip to Asheville, NC! I can't believe I have never been but decided enough was enough after hearing what a neat place to visit it is. My visit will just be a short weekend one but I can't wait for the getaway nonetheless. Oh and did I mention that I will be taking this getaway with my "manfriend"? That's another new development since my last posting before Thanksgiving. At this time I will not be going into the details as I would prefer to keep that aspect of my personal life out of the blog for now. We will refer to him as T and we have been dating for a little bit now.

I have a list of things as options for our trip but none are set in stone or anything we are dying to do. We thought about getting in a hike or two, exploring a few of the breweries, and getting in some yummy meals. I would love to know of any good restaurants or places to grab drinks that you would recommend!

Also, The Biltmore... is this something we most definitely should make time to do or something we should put off until another trip down the road?

Thanks y'all!
Yours truly,
Emily Ann

Hello... It's Me

See what I did with the title there? I can't believe it has been since Thanksgiving that I last posted! I say I can't but to be 100% I know exactly why I haven't been blogging and while I have missed my time away... it was completely necessary. Allow me to explain why...

If your not a new reader around here you know that I was diagnosed with liver disease this time last year. It's an autoimmune disorder called Primary Biliary Cirrhosis and pretty much means my body does not properly expose and deal with bile the way it should. Sounds pretty harmless but it comes with some pretty annoying symptoms including extremely itchy skin, fatigue, bloating, and just generally not feeling like myself. Over the past year my doctors and I have noticed that my main symptom appears to be itchy skin which unfortunately there are not many treatment options for. Now I know what your thinking, itchy skin... how bad could it. Imagine your whole body covered in mosquito bites that itchy constantly and staying up 3-4 nights a week because you are unable to sleep. Yea... its that miserable. Here's where it got a little scary about a month ago...

About a week or so after thanksgiving I decided to try out a new medicine that might help the itching as I was on day 4 of no sleep. About an hour after taking the medicine I felt dizzy, confused, and extremely lethargic. Soon I wasn't able to form sentences and couldn't even grip a pen to write down for my coworkers what I had taken. Luckily, I work at a hospital and was quickly taken to the Emergency Room where my blood pressure was 157/117 which is extremely high for me. I spent the night in the ER getting test after test, most concerned that this medicine had induced stroke like symptoms. I was discharged from the ER once my blood pressure had come down and my speech was back to normal and pretty much diagnosed with an adverse reaction to the medication. I am now on a new set of medicines and so far no stroke like symptoms and things have been slowly improving. Some days I am crazy itchy and spend nights not sleeping but others are fine and I barely notice it. I have my moments where I don't want to deal with any of it and hate the amount of medicine I put into my body every day. However, I remind myself that this is something I will have forever and I am fortunate to have the rest of my health that allows me to workout, have a job, and live my life.

In other news, I also drew the lucky straw on being in charge of coordinating and organizing Christmas   this year at the Children's Hospital where I work. Each year we receive between 80-150+ donations from individuals and companies in our community that allow us to provide Christmas presents for our patients and their siblings. It is truly humbling and amazing to see how generous and thoughtful people are around the Holidays and while it was a lot to deal with, I am so grateful for all that people gave. Once we have met each donation, we set up a few rooms with the gifts that are organized by age categories and gender and then allow parents to come down and Christmas shop for their children, an event we call Snow Blitz. We then take all the gifts that have been chosen and wrap them for Santa to deliver to the patient on Christmas Eve. While I  worked 11 days straight leading up to Christmas, each 12 hour days... it was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever been a part of, let alone in charge of.

Once Christmas at work was over, I was able to head home and spend a whole WEEK with my family in Maryland! I can't remember the last time I was able to spend that much time at home with my family, I am already missing them and looking forward to my next trip home. Later this week I plan to do a post on a few of the goodies I received for Christmas!

If you made it through this whole post, you are a saint and I can't thank you enough for listening to my rambling. This week I have a few posts scheduled and I am excited to get back into blogging after a too long break away!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Yours truly,
Emily Ann
