5 on Friday

So happy to see Friday is finally here! My weekend officially started last night and I am so happy to have the day off before heading to Raleigh tonight to spend the weekend with friends! This week was long long and like I mentioned yesterday started off with a viewing and a funeral... not exactly how I wanted to start the week. However I was able to end the week on a much better note that included a trip to the nail salon, wine, sushi, and catching up with friends. Here's this week 5 on Friday...

This week started off on a great foot because Sunday my mom, gram, and family friend all traveled to Richmond for the day. We grabbed lunch at one of my favorite spots, shopped, and ended the day with dinner at another amazing restaurant. I've been pretty stressed lately and being able to spend time with them meant the world to me and I am already missing them and looking forward to my next trip home!

March is Child Life month and this week I was overwhelmed but the sweet things I received from both coworkers and patients. I absolutely love my job and would not change it for the world and am so blessed to be able to work with amazing patients, their families, and my amazing Hematology/ Oncology team!

Tonight I will be making my way down to Raleigh to see some friends and spend the weekend. It has been way to long since I have seen some of them and I can't wait to catch up and enjoy their company!

Last night when I got off work I headed out with a friend to get manicures, it was the perfect treat to end the day and we were even able to bring our own wine and snacks. Afterwards we went to a sushi place I had been dying to try, Osaka and met Allie from Alexandra Bee Blog. Allie has quickly become one of my good friends in Richmond and I am so thankful to have met such a genuine friend through the blogging world. Fortunately for me, her boyfriend Bryce will be heading out of town next week and we already have lots of fun girls nights planned!

This quote jumped out at me for today and I've decided it will be the theme of the weekend!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Thoughts for Thursday

Thursday Thursday Thursday... this week has been long. My week started off with a viewing on Monday and funeral on Tuesday and honestly, it has left me feeling drained for the remainder of the week. While I feel like the days flew by, the hours have seemed to drag. Fortunately for me, tonight starts my weekend and I will be off tomorrow! Here's a few thoughts on my mind currently...

- I am anxiously checking the clock today because come 4:30 I will be off and heading to get a manicure accompanied by wine and one of my girlfriends. After we plan to try out a sushi place that I have been dying to try... review to come!

- My sleep has been completely off for the past few weeks and I am having the hardest time getting it back! I've been going to bed way later then I normally would around 11/11:30 and waking up around 4 or 5... needless to say under eye concealer has been necessary.

- Yesterday I went into Walgreens to grab lotion and walked spending close to $50... typical.

- Buttery oaky Chardonnays have been my treat this week... it's an obsession.

- Last night I had an impromptu dinner date with a friend that included laughs, catching up, and wine... perfect way to end a stressful day.

- My work celebrated Child Life month this week and I have been blown away by the amount of sweet comments and goodies from coworkers, more details to come tomorrow!

- Gwyneth and Chris splitting... I can't even.

An array of randomness but thankfully only a few more hours until the day is over and the weekend begins!

Emily

Wednesday Eats- Breakfast Quiche

Today I have a yummy quick breakfast recipe that I tried out last night to bring to a work meeting this morning. I've never made a quiche and for some reason have always been a bit intimidated by them but couldn't be more pleased by how easy and simple it was!

The ingredients you will need are:
8 eggs
1/2 of a small red pepper chopped
1/2 small yellow onion chopped
Salt and pepper

I chopped and sauteed the pepper and onion last night so that I could just throw them in with the eggs this a.m. This made things a lot easier but if you are making it the day of, you could easily do this quickly before popping it in the oven. Once your veggies are sauteed, whisk together the 8 eggs and add salt and pepper. Pour eggs in pie dish and add veggies. Bake at 350 for 20-30 minutes!

Again this was super easy and great to throw together for a quick but yummy breakfast!

Emily

"You" Time

Ever feel like you need to treat yourself a little in life? The past few weeks have been pretty stressful at work and also in my personal life. My schedule has been thrown off, I haven't been eating much or working out for that matter and I just haven't felt like myself. The first week of my funk I craved staying at home and snuggling up in bed to read or watch Netflix. I pretty much lived off of almonds at tea and was very much was a homebody. Last week was the exact opposite and I filled my days with staying really busy at work and happy hours throughout the week. While last week was fun, happy hours almost every day are not good for me or my bank account.

Over the weekend my mom, gram, and a family friend came to see me for the day and it was exactly what I needed to start feeling myself again. We went to brunch, shopped, caught up and left me feeling happy to go into a new week. This week unfortunately I will be attending both a viewing and a funeral for a patient that passed away but do have other exciting plans.  No, not happy hours every night but I will be spending 2 nights with friends catching up and relaxing. Going through this funk has definitely made it hard to balance wanting to stay in and just comfort myself to the other side of surrounding myself with friends but I think I am finally starting to get it. During my few days of staying in here's a bit of how I spent my time...

Cozy nights spent with magazines and Netflix

A midweek pick me up

Beautiful flowers from my best friend that made the week a bit more bearable

More Netflix and tea

The little treats and relaxation was exactly what I needed and wanted and I am so glad I took the time to listen to my body and just give myself a few days. Working in the health care field, or any field to be honest can be extremely draining and I've learned it's so important to practice self care. If you have a little extra time throughout this week I encourage you to treat yourself to a little "you" time!

5 on Friday

It has been quite some time since I participated in 5 on Friday and I am glad to be back! This weekend I am off work and have no plans other then grabbing happy hour tonight with friends, relaxing, and spending Sunday with my mom and grandma who will be coming to Richmond for the day! Let's take a look back at this past week...

Every morning I wake up to an email from A Note From The Universe. They completely make my morning and leave me ready for day and feeling inspired. You can go to tut.com to sign up and just have to fill out a few quick questions about yourself and viola-  you will have daily inspiring emails!

Earlier this month I was feeling the need to treat myself to a little getaway and with the return of my tax refund, I couldn't decide on any other way better to spend it then to fly out to San Francisco to see one of my best friends! I am so excited about the thought of seeing one of my best friends AND spending a week in sunny warm California! Only 52 more days to go!

{three}

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I have absolutely been craving time with my friends and being surrounded by their love and support as I have been really stressed at work. This week I was fortunate enough to get together with a different girlfriend every night of the week but one! It was amazing to sit and chat and catch up over a glass of wine or yummy cocktail. Tonight I am finally trying out VMFA's Amuse and I am so excited the weather will be perfect to sit outside surrounded by friends enjoying a few glasses of wine.

I could not be more excited to spend some time with these ladies come Sunday! My mom and grandmother are traveling up to Richmond for the day on Sunday and I can't wait for brunch, a little shopping, and enjoying each others company.

Last night I had the pleasure of getting together with Ms. Allie from Alexandra Bee Blog and had the best time. This was our second time meeting and while we intended to just have happy hour, our drinks turned into dinner and before you know it over 3 hours had gone by! Allie just recentley underwent a new blog design and it is absolutely beautiful, as is she inside and out. We are already talking about our next get together and I am so thankful to have met such a genuine friend through the blogging world. More to come on our amazing Mosaic experience next week!

That about does it for this week, hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Thoughts for Thursday

This week has been long long long and I can't help but wish Friday were already here. Work has been pretty steady and was made a little bit more crazy by office renovations which put me without an office for most of the week. Thankfully the medical team I follow graciously gave me a COW (computer on wheels) and chair to use in the team room which became my desk for the week! Luckily by tomorrow I should have a brand new work space- pictures to come! In other news not including my work or desk, here are a few other things on my mind....

- my midterm for school is due this weekend and now having one paper under my belt for this class, I feel much more prepared in writing this one. Hopefully the grade will show!

- I have gone to a happy hour almost every day this week... oops. I haven't had much of an appetite lately but have been craving time catching up with girlfriends. More to come on this tomorrow!

- There is a possibility my sweet grandmother will be coming for the day this weekend and I can't wait to get brunch and spend the day with her!

- I am a little over 50 days away from my big trip to San Francisco in May!

- My girlfriends and I are already planning our getaway to the shore for the 4th of July and I am so excited to be reunited and in the sun for my favorite holiday.

- I babysat this week and couldn't help but notice how fun it is to be young and without a care in the world. It was a major reality check for all the stress I have been doing lately and I had so much fun acting like a kid for a night and playing with cars and building forts.

- I could not be happier Spring is officially here and can't wait for the warmer weather. Richmond is supposed to get snow next Tuesday but I refuse to believe it, snow at the end of March?!

- This quote pulls at me for some reason today:

My Everyday Makeup- Less then 10 steps!

My Everyday Makeup- Less then 10 steps!

As of a few weeks ago I switched up my beauty routine and stumbled upon some new makeup, Bare Minerals to be exact. While at home a few weeks ago, I played around with my mom's and couldn't have fallen more in love. I consider myself to be a major foundation junkie and am always looking for the newest brand or what promises the most results. When I tried Bare Minerals I couldn't believe how much coverage it gave while also looking natural. I happen to get lucky on the day I ventured into the store because I got all of the above for less then $100, minus the Nars blush and brush. So far I am loving everything I have used from Bare Minerals and can't wait to try more of their products! Here are a few I have my eye on...

Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser

Active Cell Renewal Night Serum

Flawless Radiance All Over Powder

If you haven't given Bare Minerals a chance I highly suggest you do so, I have absolutely loved it and am very picky about my makeup and what I put on my skin!

Emily

Weekend Recap

This past weekend I celebrated St. Patrick's Day by going to a few different happenings in Richmond. We started our morning with green mimosas and cinnamon rolls and headed out to Shamrock The Block where we enjoyed a few beverages and live music. The weather was perfect, warm, and sunny and made for a great day outside. A local band, Three Sheets To The Wind was also playing at a downtown bar and if you have seen them before, you know they are hard to pass up. We ended our marathon day by a little outdoor music and hard to believe but more beverages. Here's a few snapshots of the weekend...

It was such a fun day and although I loved celebrating St. Patrick's Day, the weather was by far my favorite part. Here's to hoping for warmer temps by the end of this week!

Emily
